Teacher's Police Interrogation: "I Couldn't Say No"

Joselyn San Roman's police interrogation shows a first-year Michigan Spanish teacher sitting across from investigators, and her answers change as the questions get more specific. She walked into the sheriff's office on her own in April 2024. By the end of the recording, her account of contact with a 16-year-old student had shifted more than once. San Roman was teaching at a charter school in Oakland County, Michigan, and was engaged to be married. Then a night out at Red Lobster with a co-worker set an investigation in motion. In this video, we go through the recorded interrogation, including what she said about how the contact began, how far it went, and how recently she had been in touch with the student. We also look at what the police report says about the co-worker, the school's internal reports, and what investigators found when they searched her phone. She was charged with three counts of criminal sexual conduct with a student and later pleaded guilty. The question of what the co-worker did with what he heard is still not answered in the report.
