Aniah Blanchard’s disappearance sparks a massive search, a devastating discovery, and her family’s years-long fight for justice. In today’s episode of Southern Girl Crime Stories, we cover the murder of Aniah Blanchard—from her disappearance in October 2019 to the 2026 conviction and sentencing of Ibraheem Yazeed—and the legacy of Aniah’s Law. 🔎 Featured Case: 🕵 Aniah Blanchard — Auburn / Macon County, Alabama Aniah Blanchard was studying early childhood education at Southern Union State Community College. Her family remembered her warm personality, infectious laugh, and love for children. On October 23, 2019, surveillance cameras captured Aniah at a Chevron gas station on South College Street in Auburn. She never made it home. Two days later, investigators found her black Honda CR-V abandoned and damaged in Montgomery. Blood discovered inside the vehicle belonged to Aniah, raising fears that she had suffered a life-threatening injury. Surveillance footage and an eyewitness account led investigators to Ibraheem Yazeed. On November 25, searchers found Aniah’s remains in a wooded area in Macon County. She had been killed by gunfire. After more than six years, the case went to trial. On March 19, 2026, a jury found Yazeed guilty of murder and felony murder. On May 7, he received life sentences on both counts. Sentencing coverage — WSFA Aniah’s family also turned their grief into advocacy. Their push for change helped bring about Aniah’s Law, an Alabama constitutional amendment approved by voters in 2022 that expanded judges’ authority to deny bail for certain serious offenses. ⸻ 🕒 Video Chapters 00:00 – The Disappearance 00:53 – Southern Girl Crime Stories Intro 03:25 - The Murder of Aniah Blanchard ⸻ 💬 Join the Discussion: What stand
