MacArthur's Problem With Intelligent Design

John MacArthur explains why creation cannot ultimately be explained by science. Science deals with what can be observed, tested, and repeated, while the creation of the universe was a unique supernatural act that cannot be recreated or scientifically observed. MacArthur also addresses the limitations of “creation science” and Intelligent Design. Disproving evolution may expose problems with an evolutionary worldview, but it does not by itself explain how God created the universe. Intelligent Design can point toward a designer, but MacArthur argues that it stops short of the God revealed in Scripture. For MacArthur, the only authoritative account of how creation happened comes through divine revelation. Genesis does not present creation as a process waiting to be reconstructed scientifically, but as the direct work of God. The deeper question is therefore not simply whether evolution is false, but whether we will accept what God has revealed about Himself and His creation.
