Description

John MacArthur explains why the gospel must begin with a clear understanding of salvation as divine rescue from eternal judgment. Christianity is not merely about finding purpose, improving self-esteem, or becoming happier. It addresses humanity’s most serious problem: standing guilty before a holy and righteous God. MacArthur argues that people must understand both God’s perfect righteousness and their own sinfulness. The problem goes deeper than breaking the Ten Commandments externally. Jesus exposes the heart’s rebellion, and ultimately, the rejection of Christ stands at the center of humanity’s guilt before God. As Scripture declares in Romans 3, there is none righteous—not even one. Without understanding divine judgment, the gospel loses its meaning. Sinners cannot bridge the separation between themselves and a holy God through their own goodness. They need a Redeemer who can rescue them from the consequences of sin. Only when the seriousness of our guilt becomes clear can we begin to grasp why salvation through Jesus Christ is truly good news.
