Description

🏛️ The Convict, The Mansion and the Forgotten Inn Hidden beside one of Western Sydney’s busiest roads are the forgotten ruins of the Woolpack Inn and the once-grand Regentville Mansion. At first glance, they appear to be two completely separate pieces of colonial history. But they’re connected by one extraordinary man. In 1826, James Hackett arrived in Australia as a convict, sentenced to 99 years for horse theft. Assigned to work at Sir John Jamison’s magnificent Regentville estate, Hackett slowly earned his freedom before building a remarkable new life. He became a respected butcher, innkeeper, racecourse owner and businessman, helping shape the early township of St Marys. Today, little remains of the Woolpack Inn or Regentville Mansion. Their weathered ruins stand as silent reminders of a forgotten chapter in Australia’s colonial past. Join me as we explore these hidden locations, uncover the remarkable life of James Hackett, and discover how one man’s journey from convict to respected citizen became forever intertwined with two of New South Wales’ most fascinating historic ruins. 📍 Locations Featured • Woolpack Inn Ruins – St Marys, NSW • Regentville Mansion Ruins – Regentville, NSW • South Creek • Great Western Road / Great Western Highway 🎥 If you enjoy forgotten history, abandoned places, colonial Australia, hidden ruins and true stories from Australia’s past, don’t forget to Like, Subscribe, and Share to help preserve these remarkable stories for future generations. #shadowedsecrets #JamesHackett #WoolpackInn #Regentville #StMarys #ColonialAustralia #AustralianHistory #ConvictHistory #Convicts #NewSouthWales #Heritage #HistoricRuins #AbandonedHistory #ForgottenHistory #HiddenHistory #HistoryDocumentary #SydneyHistory #Penrith #BlueMountains #AustralianHeritage #HistoricPlaces #ExploreHistory #OldAustralia #HistoryLovers #Documentary
