🐄 THE ABANDONED MENANGLE ROTOLACTOR | AUSTRALIA’S FORGOTTEN TOURIST ATTRACTION 🇦🇺 Hidden away in Menangle, south-west of Sydney, stands the remains of one of Australia’s most extraordinary pieces of agricultural history — the Menangle Rotolactor. 🏚️ Once a popular tourist attraction visited by thousands of families and schoolchildren, this enormous rotating milking machine is now a forgotten reminder of a very different era. 🎬 In this episode of Shadowed Secrets, we explore the abandoned Menangle Rotolactor, uncover its fascinating history and discover what remains of this remarkable dairy operation more than 70 years after it first opened. 🥛 WHEN MILKING COWS BECAME A TOURIST ATTRACTION! Opened in May 1952 at the historic Camden Park Estate, the Menangle Rotolactor was the first of its kind in Australia and reportedly only the third in the world. This extraordinary machine featured 50 individual cattle stalls arranged around a giant rotating platform, capable of milking approximately 300 cows every hour. During the 1950s and 1960s, families travelled to Menangle to watch the cows being milked, enjoy fresh milkshakes and experience a technological marvel unlike anything they’d seen before. For many Australians, a visit to the Rotolactor became an unforgettable childhood memory. 🔎 IN THIS EPISODE, WE DISCOVER: 🐄 The history of Australia’s first Rotolactor and how it revolutionised dairy farming. ⚙️ How the enormous rotating milking platform operated — and what remains of the original machinery today. 🚂 Forgotten railway tracks, old buildings and two unusual railway carriages hidden amongst the vegetation. 🥛 The famous milk bar and why thousands of visitors travelled to Menangle during the 1950s and 1960s. 👷 The workers who operated and maintained this extraordinary machine. 🏚️ Why the Rotolactor eventually closed and what happened to the historic dairy complex. 🎞️ Featuring original black-and-white archival footage of the Rotolactor in operation, historical photographs and present-day exploration of the surviving buildings. 📍 LOCATION: Menangle, New South Wales, Australia 📅 OPENED: May 1952 🐄 ORIGINAL OPERATION ENDED: January 1977 ⚙️ FINAL CLOSURE: Approximately 1983 💭 DO YOU REMEMBER THE MENANGLE ROTOLACTOR? Did you visit on a school excursion during the 1950s, 1960s or 1970s? Perhaps you remember watching the cows travelling around the enormous rotating platform, enjoying a fresh milkshake or visiting with your family. Or maybe you worked at the Rotolactor!
