Description
Original Video Credit: IG@sizev_diver
This is ice diving, one of the most demanding environments a diver can enter. Unlike normal open-water diving, the surface above the diver is covered by solid ice. That means the diver cannot simply swim straight upward whenever they want to leave the water. They must return to the opening cut into the ice.
In this video, the diver is carrying a scuba cylinder on his back, which provides his breathing gas underwater. Ice divers also use careful safety procedures to make sure they can find their way back to the entry point.
The environment is especially difficult because of the extreme cold, limited exits, heavy equipment, and reduced visibility that can occur beneath the ice.
The ice itself also creates what divers call an overhead environment, meaning there is a solid barrier above them instead of open water.
This video is shared for educational purposes to explain ice diving, underwater safety, and the challenges of diving beneath a frozen surface.
