Description

This is a PLT 150 pneumatic line thrower, a maritime device used to launch a lightweight messenger line across long distances.
Instead of firing bullets, the system uses compressed air to launch a projectile that carries a thin rope with it. Once that first line reaches the other ship, platform, or target area, crews can use it to pull across a much heavier rope.
That heavier line may then be used for tasks such as mooring, towing, offshore operations, or rescue work.
This is especially useful at sea because manually throwing a rope over a long distance can be difficult, especially in strong wind, rough water, or when two vessels cannot get close enough to each other.
The PLT 150 allows crews to create that first connection quickly and with much greater range than a person could achieve by hand.
This video is shared for educational purposes to explain maritime equipment, offshore operations, and how line-throwing systems are used at sea.
