Description
A bee stings your hand. You watch it swell. By the time the bee is out of sight, it's gone.
One rule: every repair in your body runs a thousand times faster. A bee sting is gone in 4 minutes instead of 3 days. A needle mark closes in 3 minutes instead of 2 days. A broken collarbone is fixed in 80 minutes instead of 8 weeks, a dislocated shoulder in 2 hours instead of 3 months, a broken nose in an hour instead of six weeks. But healing only starts after the damage. You still bleed, you still hurt, a dodgeball still hits at full speed, bones set wherever they lie, healing doesn't fix how you were built, and every repair burns a mountain of fuel.
Then a school bus flips on Route Nine, the hospital runs out of O-negative blood, and the final of a million-dollar TV show starts in forty minutes. A normal donor waits 56 days between donations. You wait 81 minutes. You can't be in the arena and on the cot.
Being unbreakable is a power. Giving it away is a choice.

his is a fictional "what if" story: the 1000x healing, the Last One Standing, the TV show, Dr. Ross, Mia and the bus crash are made up. The healing times are simple divisions of typical textbook ranges (they vary a lot between people and injuries) and are rounded. The fuel costs ("a broken arm costs a full dinner, a broken leg the whole fridge"), the "few minutes to set a bone" and the tattoo ink being pushed out by dinner are the story's own inventions, not real medicine. Please don't test your limits at home, see a real doctor for real injuries, and if you can, give blood: it really does save lives.
