Description

Dinosaurs disappeared more than 66 million years ago… but what if scientists could eventually build dinosaur-like animals again? In this video, we’re looking at when dinosaurs could come back, including possible future versions of Velociraptor, Dilophosaurus, Triceratops, Tyrannosaurus rex and Spinosaurus. Using modern genetic engineering, bird embryos, developmental biology, living dinosaur relatives and what fossils tell us about dinosaur anatomy, we’ll estimate when each dinosaur could realistically appear as an engineered dinosaur analogue. Could scientists bring back a T. rex? Could a genetically engineered bird eventually resemble a Velociraptor? How would scientists recreate Triceratops horns and its giant frill? And how could anyone rebuild something as bizarre as Spinosaurus, with its crocodile-like skull, unusual tail and massive sail? We’ll work through each dinosaur from the animals that may be easiest to recreate to some of the hardest dinosaur bodies imaginable. Birds are living dinosaurs, which makes them one of the most interesting starting points for future dinosaur recreation. Scientists can already study and alter how embryos develop, and fossils give us an increasingly detailed picture of what extinct dinosaurs looked like. Combining those ideas raises one insane possibility: instead of finding preserved dinosaur DNA like Jurassic Park, future scientists could potentially engineer animals that increasingly resemble extinct dinosaurs. In this video: 🦖 Velociraptor — feathers, teeth, claws and a long dinosaur-like tail 🦕 Dilophosaurus — its distinctive skull crests and larger theropod body 🦏 Triceratops — horns, frill and rebuilding a four-legged dinosaur body 👑 Tyrannosaurus rex — massive growth, jaws, teeth, legs and a huge muscular tail 🌊 Spinosaurus — its strange skull, tail, sail and semi-aquatic adaptations We’ll also estimate possible future dates for when the first convincing dinosaur analogues could hatch, from smaller feathered raptor-like animals to an engineered T. rex or Spinosaurus. Could dinosaurs really return one day? Would they look anything like Jurassic Park? And if scientists eventually gain the ability to engineer dinosaur-like animals… which dinosaur should they bring back first?
