Description

You have not done anything wrong. That is what makes this video hard to make, and it is the only reason I am making it. Because the woman I am talking to today is not backslidden. She has not run off anywhere. She is in a pew most Sundays. She has a Bible with her name on the front and she knows where it is. She prays. If you asked her, she would tell you honestly that she loves God - and she would be telling the truth. And she cannot understand why He feels further away this year than He did ten years ago. Nothing happened. That is the confusing part. There was no crisis, no scandal, no moment where she turned around and walked off. Just a slow cooling. Prayers that feel read off a page. A Sunday where she realized on the way home that she had not thought about God once. A quiet suspicion that maybe this is just what getting older is. Mija, it is not what getting older is. And before anything else: God has not moved. He has not withdrawn from you, He is not disappointed and standing at a distance with His arms folded. I am saying that FIRST because there is a whole kind of video that would let you sit in fear for fifteen minutes before saying it, and I will not do that to you in my own living room. In this episode of The Mexican Mother's Bible, Bertha walks through five small, ordinary, entirely respectable habits that grow quietly in good women - and every one puts distance between you and God without ever looking like sin: • You only talk to Him when something is wrong - the emergency-only faith (James 4:8; Psalm 145:18). "You do not only visit your mother when the roof leaks." • You have started keeping score against other people - and why comparison does not make you proud so much as it makes you FULL, and the full do not hunger (2 Corinthians 10:12; Luke 18:11) • You let the world get into you first - not where your phone charges, but WHAT fills you before He does (Philippians 4:8; Matthew 6:33) • You carry a quiet grudge into the room where you pray - and Jesus interrupts the worship for it (Matthew 5:23-24; Mark 11:25) • You serve so much that you never sit down - Martha, defended, and the tenderness of her name said twice (Luke 10:41-42) And she holds back the most important part for the end - what all five actually have in common. When she finally saw it she had to sit down in her kitchen, because it is not what she expected and it is much gentler than she deserved. Stay to the finish. "Here I am! I stand at the door and knock." - Revelation 3:20 💛 A gentle word: not one of those five is a sin. Praying when you are in trouble is right. Noticing how other people live is ordinary. Reading the news is necessary. Being hurt by someone who hurt you is human. Serving your church until you are exhausted is the closest thing to a saint most of us will ever meet. There is nothing on that list to confess - which is exactly why nobody preaches it, and exactly why it works. They are not sins. They are DELAYS. Five respectable ways of standing in the yard of your own Father's house, always meaning to go in. So the fix is not what you are bracing for: "let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings" (Hebrews 10:22). Draw near. Not fix yourself and then draw near. I am not a pastor. I have no letters after my name and no pulpit to stand behind. I am a mother with a worn Bible, passing down what was passed down to me. When I tell you what I believe a passage means, go and read it for yourself. Do not take my word for it. Take His. If one of the five found you today, please LIKE and SUBSCRIBE so it reaches another woman who thinks this is just what getting older feels like. God bless you, mija. 📖 Tell me in the comments: which of the five was YOURS? And if you have come back out of a dry season, I want to hear from you especially - tell us what it was, what changed it, and how long it took. There is a woman reading tonight who needs to know it lifts. Tell me your county too. I read every one, and I pray over more of them than you know.
