In the late 1920s, a London housemaid named Gladys Aylward was told no. The mission she believed God had called her to would not send her to China. So she laid her Bible and a few coins on her bed and prayed, "Here is me, use me, God." What happened next took her across Siberia in wartime, into a mountain town in China, and years later to the bank of the Yellow River with about a hundred children and no boats in sight. This morning devotional walks through three truths. First, a closed door is often God's protection, and the thing you keep fighting may be the thing keeping you safe (Proverbs 20:24; Job 23:10; Numbers 22:33; Psalm 84:11). Second, what to do in the hallway between two doors, and the one mistake that keeps so many believers stuck there (Ecclesiastes 7:10; Numbers 14:42; Isaiah 30:21). Third, how God opens what no hand can open, and why so many of us pray for the answer and then leave it standing outside (Acts 12:10; Psalm 118:23; Isaiah 64:4).
