Description

Rome conquered Magna Graecia. The Greek language stayed. In the villages of Salento and Calabria, a Greek language called Griko is still spoken today. Linguists still debate where it comes from: a direct line back to the original Greek colonists, or a later Byzantine-era arrival that refreshed or replaced it. The answer is probably a mix of both. 🎬 Full story: The Last Greeks of Italy ( https://youtu.be/kY23Hc7il0c ) Subscribe to Echoes of the Forgotten for more vanishing languages and forgotten peoples. Note: the origin of Griko is genuinely debated among linguists. This video presents both leading theories. #Griko #MagnaGraecia #LostLanguages #AncientHistory #Shorts
