An old legend tells of a wise man who asked a king for one grain of rice on the first square of a chessboard, doubled on every square after. The king laughed at so small a request, until he learned that by the last square he owed more rice than the world grows in centuries. Small beginnings, placed in thankful hands, can become blessings beyond counting. "For who has despised the day of small things?" (Zechariah 4:10). Stay for the one small thing you carry into every single morning: the first square of everything God wants to grow in you. This morning devotional walks through three truths about the little God has already placed in your hands. First, thanksgiving comes before multiplication. Jesus gave thanks for five barley loaves and two small fish before there were five thousand meals (John 6:11, 1 Thessalonians 5:18). Second, God watches how we handle little before trusting us with much, the way David's "few sheep" became the training ground for a king (Luke 16:10, 1 Samuel 17:37, Matthew 25:21). Third, thankful hearts receive a deeper blessing. Ten were cleansed, but the one who came back was made whole (Luke 17:17-19, Isaiah 60:22).
