How Mikel Arteta Made Arsenal Great Again

Arsenal's most important signing in the last decade wasn't Declan Rice. It wasn't Gyökeres. It was a 37-year-old Spanish manager with zero experience who most bookmakers gave two years. Mikel Arteta inherited a laughing stock — a rotten dressing room, no trophies, mid-table and directionless. So he burned it down. Özil, Aubameyang, the deadwood, all gone. Then came three straight second-place finishes and the doubters got louder. This is how Arteta made Arsenal great again. Not by outspending City or out-pressing Liverpool, but by building a wall — the best defensive record in Europe, 19 clean sheets, a set-piece machine, and a first-ever Premier League season without conceding a penalty or seeing a red card. On May 18th, 2026, twenty-two years of pain ended. Arsenal were champions. He was given two years. He took six. And he reminded the world what Arsenal is supposed to be.
