Inside the deepest place on Earth: what is hiding in the Mariana Trench?

🌊 Nearly seven miles beneath the Pacific lies the deepest place on Earth, the bottom of the Mariana Trench. To put that in perspective, it is about as far below the waves as a passenger jet flies above them. Getting there is harder than reaching orbit.
No sunlight has ever touched the bottom of this trench, not once in the entire history of the planet. The water hovers just above freezing, and the pressure is more than a thousand times what you feel at sea level, somewhere around eight tons pressing on every square inch, enough to crush solid steel. It is more cut off from the rest of us than the surface of the Moon. More people have travelled into space than have ever stood at the very bottom.
We have mapped the surface of Mars in sharper detail than our own deep-sea floor. Which leaves a simple question. If this is the most hostile, most sealed-off place on the entire planet, what is actually down there in the dark, and why does so much of it turn out to be stranger than anyone expected?
New dives into the ocean's strangest corners, every week. Subscribe and stay down here with us: https://www.youtube.com/@UnchartedDepthsOfficial
