🌊 NASA did not go to the bottom of the ocean for the fish...
It sent a scientist nearly seven miles down, into the deepest, darkest place on Earth, to rehearse something that has almost nothing to do with our own seas.
This is the story of what he found at the bottom of the Mariana Trench. Pale filaments growing on bare rock that might be alive, and that nobody has been able to prove are alive. A chemistry that lets life feed on stone and water with no sunlight at all. And why that same reaction, tasted by a NASA spacecraft in the spray of Saturn's moon Enceladus, has turned the search for alien life toward the frozen oceans of Europa. From the Sirena Deep to the Europa Clipper now crossing the solar system, this is why the hunt for life beyond Earth might run straight through the bottom of our own ocean.
So what did they really find down there, and how close is it to life? Let's find out.
