Description

https://mickdawson.netlify.app Want to be better prepared for the Australian wild? Grab your book through the link above. 👆📕 I'm Mick Dawson, and in this one I make the case for the thirty-ought-six Springfield as the one calibre that can genuinely hunt everything in Australia. Foxes and wild dogs on the fence line, pigs and goats all day, every one of our six deer species including a big sambar stag, and right up the ladder to scrub bulls, banteng, feral camel and the water buffalo of the Top End. One rifle. One cartridge. You just change the bullet. This isn't the flashy new magnum or the latest 6.5. It's a hundred-and-twenty-year-old cartridge that loads everything from 110 grain up to 220, that you can still buy in any country town, that won't flog your shoulder, and that comes in a rifle at every price point there is. I run the 30-06 head to head against the two cartridges most blokes cross-shop it with, the .308 Winchester and the .300 Win Mag, and I'm straight with you about where it's the floor and not the top of the heap. That'd be the buffalo. If you want honest talk on hunting calibres instead of marketing, that's this whole channel. Subscribe, and tell me in the comments what's actually in your safe, and how many of those rifles you've fired this year. Not bought. Fired. One word before you load up. Minimum calibre and season rules change by state and by species in this country. Victoria sets a legal minimum for sambar, and the Top End operators set their own for buffalo, so always check your local regs before you head out. None of this is legal advice. Just forty years of hard-won opinion. DISCLAIMER This video is general information and commentary, not legal, safety, or professional hunting advice. In Australia, personal protection is not a lawful reason to own or carry a firearm anywhere — there is no self-defence carry. Hunting buffalo requires the correct firearms licence, registration, secure storage, and a genuine reason (such as hunting with the landowner's permission or primary production). Most feral buffalo are on Aboriginal land, which requires permission through the relevant Land Council. Firearms, park and land-access rules change and differ between states and territories — always check the current Northern Territory rules and get your permissions in writing before you go. Hunt legally, ethically, and safely. #3006 #3006springfield #huntingaustralia #australianhunting #deerhunting #pighunting #sambar #waterbuffalo #308win #300winmag #huntingrifle #onegunforeverything #topend #feralhunting #reloading
