— the step-by-step pressure bandage, the snakes region by region, and your remote plan for when the phone has no bars. Built to live in your glovebox or pack.
Most snakebite kits sold in this country are built to fail you. The suction pump, the scalpel, the tourniquet strap in the bright yellow case — they look serious on the shelf, but the evidence has been clear for sixty years: nothing you can carry pulls the venom out. In this one I run every bit of kit a person actually buys against one brutal standard, and the honest number one is not the gadget you’d expect. It’s the gear that slows the clock and gets you to the only thing that actually stops the venom — the antivenom you can’t carry.
I’m Mick Dawson. Thirty-odd years out bush, a long way from the nearest hospital. This is the straight word on what a snakebite kit can and can’t do, why the eastern brown is the one that sets the standard, what the pressure immobilisation bandage really does, the two ways people get it dangerously wrong, and the four things actually worth carrying.

In this video:
How suction pumps and venom extractors fail • Why a tourniquet makes a brown snake bite worse • Why chasing the snake gets people bitten twice • The pressure bandage done right, step by step • The four things worth their room in your pack • Why distance, boots and a clear head beat every gadget
DISCLAIMER: This video is general information and commentary, not medical or first aid advice. All venomous snakebites are a medical emergency. Always call Triple Zero (000) immediately, apply pressure immobilisation as per current Australian (ANZCOR) guidelines, and do a recognised first aid course. Guidelines change — check the current advice and get trained before you need it.
👍 If the honest version is what you came for, subscribe. That’s the only thing I’ll ever ask you for.
