https://mickdawson.netlify.app Want to be better prepared for the Australian wild? Grab your book through the link above. 👆📕 The biggest gun money can buy won't save you from a saltwater crocodile. I'll say that plain, right up front. Name's Mick Dawson. Forty odd years working the rivers up the Top End, ranger work early and guiding after, and in that time I watched a lot of good people carry the wrong thing down to the water. So I sat down and ranked the only four tools actually worth carrying against a saltie in the Australian bush, worst to first, by the one thing that counts: how much crocodile-stopping you can really deliver in the one second you get. A saltie hits from the water in under two seconds. In that window, raw power means nothing. What matters is what's already in your hand, and whether it reaches the one soft spot that makes a croc let go. I'm not selling you anything. There's nothing on this channel to buy. I'm just trying to keep you from carrying the wrong tool, or the right one wrong, before you head into the Top End, Kakadu, the Northern Territory, or anywhere salties live. I run through four of them, the big-bore rifle, the machete, the humble pole, and the compact belt knife, and I'm honest about where each one falls short. I'll tell you why the eyes are the only target that reliably works, how fast and how hard a saltie really hits, what the law up here actually lets you carry, and the free habits that keep the fight from ever starting. Real cases, real sources, no hype. What I cover: Why the biggest weapon is the one you'll never bring to bear in time The one soft spot every survivor went for, and why it works Blokes who lived through it: Craig Dickmann, Stephen Moreen, and Val Plumwood A saltie's bite force, its bony armour, and the truth about the death roll Be Crocwise: the habits that cost nothing and beat any blade or barrel Firearms, the law, and protected crocs in Australia, what you can and can't do Here's the truth I keep coming back to. The gear on your belt probably isn't what saves you. Your distance saves you. Your eyes on the water save you. Keep back from the edge, and watch the waterline. DISCLAIMER This video is general information and commentary, not legal, safety, or professional hunting advice. In Australia, personal protection is not a lawful reason to own or carry a firearm anywhere — there is no self-defence carry. Hunting buffalo requires the correct firearms licence, registration, secure storage, and a genuine reason (such as hunting with the landowner's permission or primary production). Most feral buffalo are on Aboriginal land, which requires permission through the relevant Land Council. Firearms, park and land-access rules change and differ between states and territories — always check the current Northern Territory rules and get your permissions in writing before you go. Hunt legally, ethically, and safely. #saltwatercrocodile #crocodile #crocodileattack #australianbush #crocsafety #topend #northernterritory #kakadu #bushcraft #survival #outbackaustralia #becrocwise
