Description
My doctor took my blood pressure last month and sat looking at the little machine for a good long moment before she said anything. A hundred and fifteen over seventy-five. At a hundred and four years old.
Now before you get any ideas about what I'm about to tell you — I am not selling you a secret. I don't have one. What I have is two plain habits I've kept for the better part of a century, and I'll tell you honestly what I believe they've given me, and just as honestly what I can't promise they'll do for anybody else.
I am no doctor. That number is one number, from one very old body, and genetics and luck play a real part in it — I did not earn a good reading through virtue, and nobody with a harder number has failed at anything. And hear this plainly, because it matters more than anything else in this video: if a doctor has put you on medicine for your blood pressure, you take it. These two habits are things I do alongside sensible medical care, never instead of it.
With that said honestly — I'll tell you the two things. The first is that I do not let anger stay the night; I set a grudge down before the sun does, and I'll tell you about my friend Walter, who did everything right by every book there was and still carried forty years of bitterness like a backpack of stones. The second is plainer still — I move my body every single day, outdoors, and I never once called it exercise. I called it living.
Both of these are things any doctor would tell you are sound. Neither is a formula, and neither is a substitute for your own doctor and your own numbers. Please, if it's been a while, go and get yours checked.
