Description
📖 THE JUST-IN-CASE BOOK — everything your family will need, in one place 👉 https://realtalkwithtime.com
People have stopped being honest with you. That's what nobody warns you about getting old — everyone becomes polite. Too polite. They're fond of you, or they're afraid of hurting an old person's feelings, so if you've picked up a habit that's driving people away, not one soul will ever say a word about it. They'll just come round a little less. And then a little less than that. And you'll sit there wondering why the world went quiet.
I'm 104 years old and I've run out of reasons to be polite, so today I'm giving you thirteen of them. And I'll tell you right now, before we start — I was guilty of five, and nobody told me for thirty years.
In this video I go through all thirteen: making every conversation about your health, complaining as your default setting, talking for an hour without asking them a single question, the advice nobody asked for, the guilt at the door when they reach for their coat, refusing all help and then resenting not being helped, living entirely backwards, saying no to every invitation and then complaining nobody includes you, being sharp with waitresses and nurses (and what it quietly costs you), running one family member down to another, refusing your hearing aids out of vanity, showing a favourite when they've all been counting since they were small — and the thirteenth one, which nobody on this earth will ever mention to you.
And I won't leave you with a list of faults and nothing to do about it. I'll tell you the four simple things that make people genuinely want to come back, and you can start all four the very next time somebody walks through your door.
If you recognized yourself in a few of these, don't sit there feeling ashamed. Every one of these habits comes from something perfectly human — pain, loneliness, pride, fear, or loving somebody so much you can't help interfering. They are not character flaws. They're habits, and habits change quickly. I changed mine at eighty, and I got twenty-four more years to enjoy what came back.
