Description

The Complete Life of Ganesh Man Singh | The Iron Man of Nepali Democracy | Gyankunda He was born into one of Kathmandu's own aristocratic Kaji families, his grandfather, Badakaji Ratnaman Singh, held high rank inside the Rana administration itself. By every measure of birth, Ganesh Man Singh belonged to the system. He spent the rest of his life trying to bring that system down. This is his full story:- His birth in Kathmandu in 1972 B.S. into privilege he never needed; his early entanglement with the Praja Parishad and the death sentence that hung over him while the Char Shahid, Shukraraj Shastri, Dharma Bhakta Mathema, Dashrath Chand, and Gangalal Shrestha were executed; his dramatic escape over the wall of Bhadragaun jail in 2001 B.S.; his exile in India and his role in founding the Nepali Congress; the 2007 B.S. revolution; decades of repeated imprisonment under both the Rana regime and the Panchayat system that followed King Mahendra's 1960 takeover; the 2042 B.S. Satyagraha and the 2046 B.S. Jana Andolan that finally forced the restoration of multiparty democracy; and the moment that defined his character more than any victory, turning down the Prime Minister's post that was his for the taking. Alongside him throughout was his wife and fellow freedom fighter, Mangala Devi Singh. Today the epithet "Iron Man" (लौहपुरुष) is inseparable from his name, decades of imprisonment, a jailbreak, exile, and a refusal to ever abandon the fight for democracy, distilled into one word. This video traces that whole arc, honestly, including where his own party later turned against him, up to his state funeral in 2054 B.S., when Nepal declared national mourning for a man who, at the time, held no government post at all. मुख्य स्रोतहरू / KEY SOURCES (for verification):- Wikipedia — Ganesh Man Singh: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ganesh_Man_Singh Kathmandu Post — "The Iron Man": https://kathmandupost.com/opinion/2014/11/11/the-iron-man Kathmandu Post — Abhi Subedi, "Ganesh Man Singh and history": https://kathmandupost.com/columns/2021/09/25/ganesh-man-singh-and-history OnlineKhabar (English) — 19th memorial day of Ganesh Man Singh: https://english.onlinekhabar.com/19th-memorial-day-ganesh-man-singh-observed-today.html John Whelpton — "A History of Nepal" (Cambridge University Press, 2005) Where sources differ on the precise mechanics of the Bhadragaun jailbreak (rope-and-cloth versus a drainage route), this video says so openly rather than presenting one version as settled fact.
