Description

📖 My book, Nothing Goes to Waste: https://missevelynsnotebook.com/ Frugal living tips from 10 things my mother never threw away: what to reuse, what to restore, and which old habits to leave behind. This morning a truck came down your street and took away a pantry's worth of storage jars, a Saturday's worth of soup and a skillet with forty years left in it. You paid for every one of those once already, and then you went back to the store and paid for them a second time with a new name on the label. These are ten things my mother's generation never threw away, the job each one was born to do, and what it replaces on the shelf: the pickle jar, the bones and the ends, the rusted cast-iron skillet from the yard sale, the pale wooden spoon, what's going soft in the drawer, the cheese with one spot on it, the little blue bottle in the laundry room, and a plain bar of soap. Then the honest part, because a notebook that only keeps the good news is a scrapbook. Number nine was true in my mother's day and isn't now. Number ten is not an object at all: it's the one thing that generation never threw away and should have, and I did it for twenty-five years. And at the end, the three habits that made every one of those things last, short enough for an index card. None of this is your fault. We were taught, a whole generation of us, that using the free version was something to be embarrassed about. We're done being embarrassed.
