Description

Roman public toilets were one long bench with no dividers, and instead of toilet paper there was a sponge on a stick, rinsed and left for the next person. Below you: rats, sewer gas, and in one ancient story, an octopus. No wonder Romans painted the goddess of luck on the wall.
