Description

Alpha Centauri is only 4.24 light-years away but for humans, reaching the nearest star could mean spending more than four decades inside a spacecraft with no possibility of rescue. In this documentary, we take the journey year by year. Assuming an advanced spacecraft capable of reaching 10% of the speed of light, the trip to Alpha Centauri would take roughly 42 years. Along the way, the crew would face cosmic radiation, hypervelocity interstellar dust, failing life-support systems, artificial gravity, extreme isolation and communication delays measured in years. And some of the strangest dangers would have nothing to do with space itself. A faster spacecraft launched decades later could actually overtake the original crew before they arrive. Children could be born aboard the ship who have never seen an ocean, forest or natural sky. And after sacrificing an entire lifetime to reach another star, the destination itself may be hostile. Proxima b orbits its red dwarf star every 11.2 days and may be tidally locked, with permanent daylight on one side and permanent darkness on the other. Proxima Centauri also produces powerful flares that could threaten the planet’s atmosphere and anything living on its surface. So what would a real human journey to Alpha Centauri actually require? And after 42 years in the dark, would the destination be worth it? -- DISCUSSIONS & SOCIAL MEDIA Commercial Purposes: [email protected] Tik Tok: https://www.tiktok.com/@insanecuriosity Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/user/insanecuriosity Instagram: https://instagram.com/insanecuriositythereal Twitter: https://twitter.com/insanecurio Facebook: https://facebook.com/InsaneCuriosity Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/insane-curiosity-46b928277/ Our Website: https://insanecuriosity.com/ -- Credits: Ron Miller, Mark A.
