Building Walls Like Lego Bricks These massive concrete blocks look like giant Lego bricks, but they're actually used to build retaining walls. They're called precast interlocking concrete blocks, and their design allows workers to stack them without the complex formwork needed for traditional poured concrete walls. Each block has raised circular studs that fit into matching recesses underneath the next block. This interlocking system helps align the blocks and limits sideways movement. Because the concrete is already cast and cured at a factory, workers can install it immediately using an excavator and lifting chains. The blocks are placed in rows, with workers carefully guiding each piece into position. Their weight also helps resist pressure from the soil behind the wall, a principle known as gravity wall construction.
