Description

Turning Corn Waste Into Feed A farmer’s work doesn’t stop after the corn is harvested. Look at how this woman gathers dried corn stalks from a steep hillside, stacks them into a massive bundle, and ties everything together with rope before carrying it away. These leftover stalks, leaves, and husks are known as corn stover. Instead of leaving them in the field, farmers can collect and store them as roughage for livestock such as cattle and goats, especially during seasons when fresh grass is scarce. The interesting part is how she handles such a large load without any machinery. With another person helping, she uses a wooden support and rope to compress and secure the stalks, making the bulky material easier to transport. Although corn stover is rich in fiber, it has low protein content and is best combined with more nutritious feed. This traditional method allows farmers to recover useful animal feed from crop residues that might otherwise go unused. #farming #cornharvest #animalfeed #cornstalks #traditionalfarming
