Inside China's Marine Fish Farms

Inside China's Marine Fish Farms Harvesting fish on this scale requires more than just a fishing net. At this marine fish farm, workers use a crane and a massive circular lifting net to collect hundreds of fish in a single operation. First, the fish are gathered inside floating net pens, where workers concentrate them into a smaller area. A large metal frame fitted with mesh is then lowered into the water. This equipment works like a giant scoop, known in aquaculture as a fish brail. Once loaded, the crane slowly lifts the catch while excess water drains through the mesh. The fish are then transferred onto a harvesting vessel, where workers prepare insulated foam boxes lined with plastic. The catch is loaded into these containers and covered with crushed ice. This rapid chilling helps slow bacterial growth and preserve freshness during transport. #fishharvesting #fishfarming #aquaculture #commercialfishing #seafood
