Description
Long before the first dinosaur ever walked the Earth, this planet was already ruled by monsters. In this documentary, we travel back more than 500 million years to meet the most terrifying predators that came before the dinosaurs, the forgotten apex hunters that dominated the seas and the land for hundreds of millions of years before the age of dinosaurs even began.
You'll meet Anomalocaris, the very first great predator in the history of life, a nightmarish hunter that ruled the ancient oceans with spiked grasping arms and a circular mouth. You'll come face to face with the giant sea scorpions, armored eurypterids as long as a human is tall that patrolled the shallow seas. We'll explore the age of the giant amphibians, crocodile-sized ambush predators that lurked in prehistoric swamps, and finally Dimetrodon, the famous sail-backed hunter that everyone mistakes for a dinosaur, even though it lived tens of millions of years earlier and is actually a distant relative of mammals, and of us.
Then we reveal the catastrophe that ended their world: the Permian extinction, also known as the Great Dying, the worst mass extinction in Earth's history, which wiped out around 90% of all species and cleared the way for the dinosaurs to rise from the ruins.
This is the lost prehistoric world almost no one talks about, the age of monsters that ruled before the dinosaurs and were then forgotten by history.
