Description
Did wealthy foreigners pay to shoot civilians during the siege of Sarajevo? For decades it has been a dark rumour. In 2022 a Slovenian documentary brought the allegation back into public view. By 2026 Italian prosecutors in Milan were looking at five suspects — but still without evidence to seek a trial.
Between 1992 and 1995, Sarajevo lived under siege. International judges at The Hague have established that Bosnian Serb forces conducted a campaign of sniper and shelling attacks designed to spread terror among civilians — a documented war crime. The "Sarajevo Safari" allegation goes further: it claims that affluent visitors travelled to the hills above the city, paid for access to positions, and shot at people below.
Those details — organised trips from Italy, enormous payments, different "prices" per victim — have not been established as fact. A BIRN/Detektor investigation in July 2026 found contradictions among witnesses and asked how much could actually be verified. In September 2026 a Council of Europe committee even postponed a draft resolution.
This video keeps a careful distinction between what history has documented and what remains under investigation.
