Description

every method for the whole house, written down: https://berthacleans.com Wait for the afternoon sun to hit your window at a slant and look across the glass, not through it. The swirls, the gray streaks, the haze in the corners, the little handprints, the dog's nose on the sliding door. It was never your arm, mija. A streak is not dirt you missed. It is something the blue bottle left behind, and the thing that takes it away is already in your cupboard, in a little yellow box next to the flour: maicena, plain cornstarch. WHAT YOU NEED: a half bucket of warm water, ONE spoon of maicena, a small splash of white vinegar, two old cotton towels (one wet, one dry), and yesterday's newspaper. WHY THE STREAKS COME BACK: spray and wipe does not remove the dirt, it spreads it thin and leaves the soap, the minerals, the grease and the paper towel lint behind as a film. Glass is full of tiny valleys under a magnifier, and the film settles in them. The sun lights it up. The film is sticky, so dust clings to it, so you spray again. WHY MAICENA WORKS: the finest, softest powder in your kitchen, softer than glass so it cannot scratch. In warm water it gently lifts the old film, and the vinegar melts the water spots. HOW: 1. First the three places streaks come from: rinse the screens, clean the track with a butter knife in a rag, wipe the frame 2. Stir the spoon of maicena and the vinegar into the warm water until it looks a little milky 3. Wash on a cloudy morning or in the shade, top down, with the damp towel 4. Before it can dry, take every drop away with the dry towel folded in four, in an S. Never a paper towel. A squeegee works too 5. Run a dry corner around the edges, then shine with crumpled newspaper THE SECOND GIFT, the inside of your car windshield: a towel over the dashboard, warm water with one small spoon of dish soap and one of rubbing alcohol, scrub, dry with the dashboard towel, polish with a clean cloth. The same mix does the bathroom mirror and the oven door glass. HONEST WORDS: one spoon, not three, or it leaves its own haze (buff it off with a dry towel). Keep vinegar off marble and granite sills. Wipe white frames before using newspaper. Soap water only on tinted window film. WHO PROFITS: the blue bottle, the streak free wipes, the paper towels. They leave a little behind, so the glass streaks, so you buy them again. Tonight or tomorrow on a cloudy morning, wash one window, then hold the dry towel up to the light. Tell me in the comments what color it was, how many years that window has had the blue bottle, your county, and whether you have a dog. I read every one.
