Open the closet where your Swiffer lives and add up everything in there except the stick. The stick was never what they were selling, mija. The boxes are the business, because the part that touches your floor is the part they made to be thrown away. Your Swiffer is a jerga on a stick, my mother's floor cloth cut into squares and sold to you by the month.
WHY THE DRY CLOTHS QUIT HALFWAY: they grab dust with a little static. Load them with dust and kitchen damp and the static runs out, and the cloth starts pushing a gray pile into the corner. You were not sweeping wrong.
THE DRY SIDE: one old fuzzy sock stretched over the whole mop head, cuff pulled up the neck. It grabs with its threads, not static, so it keeps going until it is full. Shake it outside, wash it with the towels. No sock? A strip of old soft towel, ends pushed into the little star-shaped grippers.
NEVER FABRIC SOFTENER on the sock, the towel or any microfiber pad. It waxes the threads and they stop grabbing. Wash hot with plain soap, dry low or on the line.
THE WET SIDE: the WetJet head has rough hook strips. Press on a square of old towel, a jerga or a microfiber cloth cut a little bigger than the head. Rinse it, wash it, use it again.
THE CAP WITH TEETH: the blue WetJet bottle has a ring of little plastic teeth inside the cap so it turns on and never off. Kettle water in a deep mug, cap only (never the bottle) in the hot water for about a minute, towel on, twist left. Trim the teeth with a small knife or nail scissors, blade away from your hand, and the cap screws on and off forever. Power Mop (purple cap): just a hard turn left over the sink.
NO VINEGAR on wood, laminate or stone. It is an acid and it dulls the finish for good.
THE MIX: the bottle almost full of warm water, a quarter cup of rubbing alcohol (dries fast, no streaks), one or two DROPS of dish soap (more leaves the sticky film from my mopping video and can clog the nozzle). Turn the bottle over slowly to mix, do not shake. Test a corner behind a door first.
SECOND GIFT: with the sock on, run the mop along the tops of the baseboards, door frames, the top of the refrigerator, the blinds and the ceiling corners, standing up.
THE MONEY: a box of dry cloths runs about ten dollars and many houses pass a hundred dollars a year on cloths, pads and bottles. A sock costs nothing. A pack of microfiber cloths costs about one box and lasts years.
HONEST WORDS: for very fine dust on a dark floor, buy one microfiber pad made for the mop, once. Your own mix in the bottle may end a warranty, your call. A nozzle that stops spraying usually clears with plain warm water. If the mop breaks, keep the stick.
El que compra lo que no necesita, vende lo que necesita.
Tonight, put one lonely sock on that mop and do the kitchen. Tell me in the comments how many boxes of cloths are in your closet right now, and your county. I read every one.
