Description

This will be the world’s strongest step. And it goes right here- at the front of this porch on the new house we’re building First, I drilled two 5/8” holes every 18” into the concrete foundation. Then I drilled holes into these two wing walls, they extend 8 feet down to the footing below. I blew the holes out with compressed air and used a brush to scrub out the remaining dust. Next, I cut ½” rebar and used my rebar cutter to bend them into the shape of a “U”. The reason I cleaned the holes is because I’m using rebar epoxy- this will make sure the epoxy adheres both to the steel and the concrete. I inserted “L” shape pieces of rebar down into the wing walls- these wings walls are tied into the foundation and designed to support the weight of the step. I had a scrap piece of #8 one-inch rebar, and I thought this would be the perfect place to use it. I installed it so it will sit right in the middle of the step, and then I put a ½” piece of rebar above and below it. Next, I’m gonna form it up and pour concrete. @hausplans #build #howto #construction #diy #contractor #concrete #porch
