Description
In 2011, my wife and I had approximately $80,000 in non-mortgage debt. Fifteen years later, I retired at 54.
Getting out of debt was an important part of that transformation—but becoming debt-free was only the first step.
In this video, I share how we went from debt payments consuming part of our income to using that same financial margin to save, invest and eventually build an early-retirement plan. It wasn’t one dramatic decision or a shortcut. It was hundreds of ordinary financial decisions repeated consistently over many years.
Our journey looked something like this:
Pay off debt → Create margin → Build assets → Build the retirement bridge → Retire
I also explain why having enough invested wasn’t the only requirement. Before I could retire at 54, we needed a plan for accessing our money before age 59½, obtaining healthcare before Medicare and managing our spending without a paycheck.
