Description

Christmas Eve, 1944. Three lost American soldiers—one badly wounded—reached a German cottage in the Hürtgen Forest. Then four German soldiers knocked at the same door. According to twelve-year-old Fritz Vincken’s later account, his mother Elisabeth admitted them on one condition: every weapon stayed outside. The seven enemies shared bread, potatoes, wine, coffee and the family’s Christmas rooster. The next morning, they reportedly shook hands and walked back toward opposite lines. This documentary treats the evidentiary limits openly. The story comes mainly from Fritz’s recollections, first published decades later, rather than contemporary military reports. A 1996 meeting with American veteran Ralph Blank provided another reported witness, but does not independently verify every conversation or gesture. THE AXER STORIES — WAR & HUMANITY Sometimes peace begins with somebody opening a door. Some visuals are AI-assisted historical reconstructions and are not authentic archival photographs. Private people and the child are intentionally shown without identifiable faces. Subscribe, like, comment and share for more true stories.
