Description

When a building caught fire in Rome, Marcus Licinius Crassus showed up and offered to buy it, and the house next door, for next to nothing. Then his 500 slave builders rebuilt them. Plutarch says that is how most of Rome became his. He said nobody was rich who couldn't pay for an army... and the legend of how he died made fun of exactly that.
