France Goes Fuzz II | 10 Wild Psych, Garage & Proto-Punk Tracks from 60s France

Several months ago, I highlighted 10 standout tracks from 1960s France that explored the rougher, more adventurous side of the era's music scene. This follow-up dives even deeper into that world, featuring another selection of fuzz-driven, psychedelic, freakbeat, and proto-punk-influenced recordings from across the decade. While the Yé-Yé movement is often seen as the defining sound of 60s French pop, many artists were simultaneously experimenting with fuzz guitars, strange studio effects, surreal lyrics, and more unconventional musical ideas. The result was a fascinating body of work that ranged from raw garage rock and freakbeat to eccentric psychedelia and some truly unique hybrids that could only have emerged from France during this period. As with the previous volume, many of these records remained obscure for decades before being rediscovered by collectors and reissued by labels such as Pop Supérette, among others, helping to preserve some of the most exciting and innovative music to emerge from 60s France.
