The Dark History of Parramatta Girls Home | The Story Hidden Behind These Walls

🏛️ For almost 90 years, thousands of girls passed through the gates of the Parramatta Girls Home. Officially presented as a place of care, education and reform, many former residents would later describe a very different reality. 🎥 In this documentary, we explore the history of one of Australia’s most significant child welfare institutions. From its beginnings in 1887, through decades of government inquiries, riots, escapes and repeated promises of reform, to its closure in 1974 and the later findings of the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Abuse, this is the story of the girls whose voices were ignored for far too long. 🚶‍♂️ Walking through the surviving buildings today, we uncover the history behind the Parramatta Girls Industrial School, the Parramatta Girls Training Home, and the Parramatta Girls Training School, while examining how these historic sandstone walls became the setting for one of Australia’s most controversial institutions. 🕊️ This documentary also explores the remarkable resilience of the Parragirls, whose determination has helped preserve the history of this place and ensure future generations understand what happened here. 📜 If you enjoy forgotten history, abandoned places, Australian heritage, historical documentaries and stories that deserve to be remembered, consider subscribing to Shadowed Secrets for more explorations across Sydney, New South Wales and Australia. 🔔 New documentaries released regularly! 👍 If you enjoyed this video, please Like, Comment and Subscribe—it really helps the channel grow and allows more forgotten Australian history to be shared. 🙏 Thank you for watching and for helping keep these important stories alive. #ParramattaGirlsHome #ParramattaGirlsTrainingSchool #ParramattaGirlsIndustrialSchool #ParramattaFemaleFactory #Parramatta #SydneyHistory #NSWHistory #AustralianHistory #InstitutionalHistory #HistoricalDocumentary #ForgottenHistory #AbandonedPlaces #UrbanHistory #HistoryDocumentary
