Modern cameras have eye-tracking autofocus. Once it locks onto a face, it follows that face through crowds and sudden turns. That is how God keeps His eye on you. When David wrote "follow" in Psalm 23:6, he used the Hebrew word radaph, the word for Pharaoh's chariots pursuing Israel in Exodus 14 and for enemies hunting David through the wilderness. Then he turned it around. The ones chasing him now were goodness and mercy.
This morning devotional walks through three truths. First, the goodness of God is actively pursuing you (Psalm 23:6; Psalm 139:7; Luke 19:10), seen in Hagar, alone at a spring in the wilderness, who gave the Lord a new name (Genesis 16:7, 13; Jeremiah 31:3). Second, goodness and mercy are two pursuers on one assignment, and mercy (chesed) is the one sent after your failures, as Jacob found on a stone pillow at Bethel (Genesis 28:15; Micah 7:18; Psalm 103:8). Third, God's pursuit always ends with you at home, including the second hidden detail in the last line of verse 6 that most people miss, and the father who ran (Luke 15:20; Psalm 27:4; John 14:2).
Stay to the end for a blessed prayer over your wandering heart, your loved ones, your finances, your healing and your breakthrough, in the mighty name of Jesus.
