Rome Buried Her Alive... With a Packed LUNCH #shorts

A Vestal Virgin who broke her vow was carried through Rome in a closed litter while the whole city fell silent, led down a ladder into a tiny room under the earth near the Colline Gate, and buried alive. Inside: a bed, a lamp, bread, water, milk and oil. Why the lunch? Nobody was allowed to kill a Vestal, so nobody technically did. Her lover was beaten to death by the high priest himself. One accused Vestal, Tuccia, proved her innocence by carrying water from the Tiber in a sieve.
