Harvesting Millions of Sunflower Seeds

Harvesting Millions of Sunflower Seeds In China's Inner Mongolia region, farmers are harvesting sunflower seeds on a massive scale. But instead of using a combine harvester, these workers cut the mature flower heads by hand. Once the plants turn yellow and the seeds harden, the heads are collected and piled together for processing. The next step is called threshing, and it's surprisingly simple. Workers rub the dried sunflower heads against metal mesh screens, knocking thousands of seeds loose. The seeds fall through the gaps while larger plant material stays above. After collection, they're packed into large sacks and transported to processing facilities. There, conveyor belts feed the seeds through cleaning and grading machines. Screens remove debris, while gravity separators help separate lighter, poorly filled seeds from heavier ones. These striped sunflower seeds are mainly grown for food, and after further processing, many are roasted and sold as snacks worldwide. #sunflowerharvest #sunflowerseeds #farming #agriculture #chinesefarming
