Description

Oliver Solberg came incredibly close to pulling off one of the most dramatic championship comebacks in rally history. He entered the final rally of the season 21 points behind championship leader Elfyn Evans, but an incredible performance put him back in contention for his first WRC world title. Everything came down to the final stage. Solberg was pushing to secure the points he needed and, with only a few corners remaining, he was almost two seconds ahead of the time required to become world champion. The title was within reach. But just moments from the finish, disaster struck. Solberg lost control and went off the road, costing him the crucial seconds he needed. Incredibly, he recovered and still managed to win the rally, but the mistake meant he missed out on the world championship. After fighting back from a 21-point deficit, Solberg had come within just a few corners of becoming world champion, making it one of the most heartbreaking moments of his career.
