Description

I’m mixing super strong 5000 PSI concrete and I’m gonna pour it in the front step on the house we’re building. It’s important not to mix concrete too wet- if you do it will shrink as it cures and you’ll get cracks. Now this small step and the front porch get covered in pavers, so the finish doesn’t have to be perfect- but I did my best to keep everything straight and level. I used my Makita vibrator to vibrate the concrete. This helps to get the air out of the concrete and make sure there’s no voids or honeycombing. I used a float to smooth off the top. I want the step to slope away from the house a ¼”. This way rainwater and melting snow won’t pond on top of it. Two days later it was time to strip the forms. I couldn’t believe it- The New Guy made a rare appearance and decided to help. Thankfully the step turned out awesome. Eventually we’re going to pour concrete for a driveway in front of this step. So, I did the math and I planned ahead. Once the driveway is poured and the pavers are laid, we will have one step and two 6 ½ inch risers up onto the porch. @hausplans #build #howto #construction #diy #contractor
