Description

📘 The Gun You Think You Know - wendellcoffey.com .308, .30-06 or .270: which deer cartridge wins? I checked them against each other on velocity, drop at 300 yards, energy, bullet weight range, and the one thing that actually kills a deer: whether the bullet opens. These three were never rivals. The .30-06 came first, in 1906. The .270 is its case necked down, and the .308 is it made shorter. Each grandson was built to beat grandpa at one thing. I tested whether it did, and what it gave up to do it. There's a smart buy and there's a winner, and they aren't the same rifle. I'm Wendell Coffey. I spent seven years behind a gun counter and thirty years as a Tennessee wildlife officer, checking rifles in the deer woods and following blood trails other men walked away from.
