The Erling Haaland Paradox

Erling Haaland is the most lethal striker on the planet. Seven goals in four games at the World Cup. The best goals-per-90 of any player in Premier League history. A scoring machine nobody can stop when he's on his A game. But when it matters most, he goes missing. In ten major cup finals for Manchester City, Haaland has scored zero goals. Zero. Against Real Madrid in 2024, with penalties looming, he asked to come off. Against England at the World Cup, with Norway needing a goal in extra time, his coach took him off and said he was "finished." This is the Haaland Paradox. The ceiling is so high nobody may ever touch it — but when it drops, it hits the floor. No link-up, no creativity, no fighting through a bad night. He might score 80 next season. He might win the Ballon d'Or. And the biggest moments will keep asking the same question. The goals will always be there. The question is whether that's enough.
