Description

A 4,265-foot tunnel beneath Taposiris Magna pointed toward the Mediterranean. Offshore, the search for Cleopatra’s lost tomb encountered submerged structures—and a new question about where to look next. Follow archaeologist Kathleen Martínez’s investigation with Titanic discoverer Robert Ballard, from the Egyptian temple complex to sonar surveys and underwater exploration. Reported discoveries include columns, anchors, amphorae and the mysterious site known as “Salam 5.” What do these remains reveal about ancient Taposiris Magna? And how much do they actually tell us about Cleopatra’s missing burial? This documentary follows the evidence connecting the tunnel, the submerged landscape and the proposed ancient port. We examine why Martínez considers this area important—and what would still be needed to connect an underwater discovery to Cleopatra VII and Mark Antony. In this video: • The tunnel discovered beneath Taposiris Magna in 2022 • How sonar mapping helped guide the underwater search • The structures and artifacts reported offshore • Why “Salam 5” became a focus of investigation • The difference between finding an ancient port and identifying a royal tomb HISTORICAL CONTEXT The submerged-port discovery was publicly announced in September 2025. This video examines that investigation; it does not claim that Cleopatra’s tomb has been found. The proposed connection between the port, the tunnel and her burial remains a hypothesis. VISUAL CONTEXT Illustrative reconstructions and conceptual thumbnail imagery are not photographs of a confirmed burial chamber or direct scientific scan results.
