Woolly Mammoth Facts That Are UNBELIEVABLE!

Woolly mammoths were WAY stranger than giant furry elephants walking around during the Ice Age. In this video, we’re going through 10 unbelievable woolly mammoth facts that completely change how you look at one of the most famous extinct animals ever discovered. We’ll look at mammoths that grew even larger than the woolly mammoth, evidence suggesting some mammoths may have had lighter or even blonde-colored fur, and incredible adaptations that helped woolly mammoths survive the freezing temperatures of the Ice Age. Scientists have even used mammoth tusks to reconstruct where individual animals traveled throughout their lives. One mammoth traveled an estimated tens of thousands of kilometers before its tusk preserved clues about the final days of its life. Humans also lived alongside woolly mammoths. They hunted them, used mammoth ivory, created mammoth artwork, and even constructed structures using enormous mammoth bones. And mammoths survived WAY later than most people realize. Small populations were still alive on Wrangel Island thousands of years after most woolly mammoths disappeared, surviving into roughly the same broad period of history as the Egyptian pyramids. Some of the craziest discoveries come from frozen mammoths preserved inside Siberian and Arctic permafrost. Scientists have recovered real mammoth skin, hair, soft tissue, organs, DNA, and even incredibly detailed information preserved inside their cells. Then there’s the biggest mammoth story happening today: scientists are working on a woolly mammoth de-extinction project using ancient mammoth DNA, Asian elephant cells, genetic engineering, and modern biotechnology in an attempt to create an animal with important woolly mammoth traits. From giant Columbian mammoths and preserved baby mammoths to ancient DNA and the possibility of mammoths returning, these are 10 of the most unbelievable facts about woolly mammoths.
