Description

After serving 12 years in the United States Army, this veteran said an encounter on his own property ultimately left him feeling betrayed by the country he had served. According to his account, the situation began when a woman was trespassing on his property. He said he repeatedly asked her to leave, but the encounter eventually escalated when she contacted the police. The woman accused him of threatening her life and chasing her with a knife, allegations the veteran strongly denied. The case eventually went to trial, where the woman testified against him. He continued to maintain that he had never threatened her life. But despite his denial, the court found him guilty. The decision devastated him. After spending more than a decade serving in the U.S. Army, he described the experience as a betrayal by the country he had dedicated years of his life to. “America, you stabbed me in the back.” Overcome with anger and emotion, he then made a dramatic decision. He took his military uniform, the symbol of the 12 years he had spent serving, and set it on fire. Whatever the full circumstances surrounding the case, the video captured a veteran who believed the system he once served had ultimately failed him.
