Description

The Gary Durrance case remained unsolved for nearly 25 years after Sherry Holtz was found murdered in Sanford, Florida, in December 1999. Police suspected her longtime boyfriend, Gary Durrance, early in the investigation—but they didn't have the forensic evidence needed to prove he killed her. Near Sherry's body, investigators recovered a blood-covered knife believed to be critical evidence. Testing confirmed biological material was present, but the DNA technology available at the time couldn't produce the answers detectives needed. More than two decades later, investigators reopened the Sherry Holtz cold case and had the knife tested again using more advanced DNA technology. This time, the results changed everything: Sherry's blood was identified on the blade, while a secondary DNA profile on the handle matched Gary Durrance. After nearly 25 years, the evidence that investigators needed had been sitting in storage all along. In this true crime documentary, we examine the murder of Sherry Holtz, the investigation into Gary Durrance, the bloody knife found at the crime scene, the DNA breakthrough that revived the Florida cold case, and the evidence that ultimately led to a guilty verdict. In June 2026, a jury deliberated for just eight minutes before finding Gary Durrance guilty of second-degree murder. He was later sentenced to life in prison. #coldcasesolved #truecrimedocumentary #truestory FAIR USE NOTICE: This video falls under fair use as it has been edited and presented for educational and documentary purposes with added commentary, analysis, and discussion.
